You have been practicing with your voice for a while, it may have started a few weeks, months or even years ago, but your voice still does not improve when singing.

I know from my own experience that this can be very frustrating and you don’t need to go through it.

Although it is true that to improve your voice when singing in a remarkable way you need to practice a lot in the correct way, I present the following things you can do from NOW to start obtaining results.

Rule # 1: Don’t yell:

  • If you can’t get your middle and high notes to be easy, chances are you’re yelling them.
  • What I mean by this?
  • An audio is worth a thousand words

Rule # 2: Accept your head voice and train it

  • Ignoring this Rule is the equivalent of hitting a wall to want to pass it.
  • When what you have to do is surround it.
  • And the vast majority of men choose to try to break the wall …
  • Although at first your head voice sounds weak, it is necessary that you train the muscles that intervene in its production and that you get used to its sensation.
  • That way, in the end the moment will come when you can add more power to the sound, until you get the mixed voice.
  • Do you want to know exactly what the head voice consists of?

Rule # 3: Accept your chest voice and train it

  • The same but in reverse.
  • Something very common in women is that they are afraid to use their chest voice.
  • If you are a woman and this happens to you, it is likely that you seem to be yelling or sound very aggressive.
  • The first thing I want to tell you is not to worry about it, because it is not.
  • You may be used to speaking softly, but that doesn’t mean that if you increase your power you will be yelling.
  • You need to train the muscles that govern the chest voice if you want your voice to not fatigue, and also if you want to achieve a powerful mixed voice.

Rule # 4: Don’t use brute force:

  • Sometimes it’s not about you screaming or not.
  • It may even be that you are not even using a high volume.
  • But even so, you may be using a lot more muscle strength than you should.
  • And I don’t blame you!
  • If your vocal cords don’t know what to do to make certain notes, high or low, your body will try to come to their rescue and will try to help them get those notes.
  • Sadly, this never has a happy ending.
  • If you are using a rather high volume, do not take another minute and practice lowering it considerably.
  • Practice at a practically inaudible volume if necessary. Playing musical Instrument like Piano can help you to attain right pitch
  • But you need to get used to the fact that singing is not an effort.
  • Are you not using a very high volume and still feel the pressure on your neck?
  • You are probably doing exercises or songs that are too difficult for you right now.
  • Or you may be high enough to do them, but you may not be warming up sooner.

Rule # 5: Don’t hit the grades:

  • High notes are always a problem.
  • Sometimes we force, sometimes we shout, sometimes our falsetto voice breaks, …
  • But many times the problem is that we think that the high notes are up and we have to reach them.
  • If it is happening to you that as you go up in grade you get more fear and insecurity because you do not know if you are going to be able to make those notes or not, you can be sure that something is not going well and you can stop at that very moment.
  • Don’t continue, because it’s not what you should be feeling.
  • You should focus on all the notes “being at the same level”, that is, you don’t have to hit them. They are simply there.
  • Want a little exercise that works wonders with this?
  • First of all, stand up.
  • Now, prepare a scale that starts in your chest voice and ends in your head voice.
  • On each note I said the syllable “NO.”

And now I want you to take a bow as soon as the scale begins.

When the scale begins, you will be standing completely straight, and begin to lean until you finish at just under 90º on the high note, to be straight again at the end of the scale.

If you do it right, you will notice that the high notes are much easier to do.

No, when you sing you won’t have to do this

But now you have felt that it can be easier, and that is what will help you comply with this Rule.

Rule # 6: Don’t focus your work and attention on your breath:

  • This is a much simpler topic than what you are used to.
  • Yes, I am very serious. Breathing exercises are not going to make you sing better.
  • Nor is it likely that you need to increase your lung capacity.
  • In fact, taking a lot of air is going to put more obstacles in your learning.
  • The most important thing to know about breathing is that you should breathe in a relaxed manner.
  • Just take a breath and allow your abdomen to expand. Avoid stretching your shoulders or going up excessively.

Excess air in the voice and other problems that seem to stem from poor breathing management should actually focus on fixing the real problem.
